Round trip Brielle and Hellevoetsluis from Rockanje

Your cycling route starts with a real farmer's ice cream from De IJsboerin. Brielle has a beautiful fortress belt from the seventeenth century and is one of the best preserved defenses in the Netherlands. The fortress belt has been restored, you can admire no less than nine bastions and five ravelins. Brielle, or Den Briel, was taken on April 1, 1572 by the Beggars from the Spaniards. The city still celebrates a historic liberation day on April 1 every year. Thanks to the port, Hellevoetsluis was a prosperous town until the nineteenth century. However, around 1830 a canal was built to open up the port of Rotterdam, after which economic activity in Hellevoetsluis declined. Now you can enjoy the atmosphere in the old town and its historic harbor.
