Tour of the Maasplassen to Wessem and Thorn

Your cycle route starts at Recreation Park De Leistert. On this route you will see many boats, because the Maas and Maasplassen form the largest contiguous water sports area in the Netherlands! The lakes are sometimes also used for swimming, such as at Fun Beach Event & Leisure Park in Panheel. Be sure to get off here for a nice dip in natural water! You will also discover Wessem, the old town that enjoys a protected cityscape because of its many beautiful monumental buildings. The Sint-Medardus Church dates from 946. You cycle into Thorn via the fields of De Grote Hegge, an old manor house. In picturesque Thorn, most of the old houses have a white facade, which creates an idyllic atmosphere. One of the eye-catchers of Thorn is the Sint-Michaël Church, large parts of which date from the fourteenth century.
