Cartierheide

The Cartierheide is a wild heath landscape with many moist areas. The white water buttercup blooms nicely in spring and on the heaths you might come across the slow worm or smooth snake - don't worry, they are non-venomous. Napoleon left his mark on the Cartierheide and for centuries the forests were the terrain of smugglers, who brought bludgeons with butter and cigarettes across the border in the dark.
