Tour through the Hogeland from Winsum

Your walk starts at Marenland Recreatie on the Winsumerdiep in Winsum, a picturesque village in Groningen. It will take a while before you walk out of Winsum, because in this old village you walk through a few atmospheric streets. You will pass two corn mills: the Ster dates from 18515, the Friendship from 1801. A little further on is the beautiful Torenkerk, the oldest part of which dates from the twelfth century. The indoor church tower from the seventeenth century has a striking feature: it has a wooden staircase attached to it. The route also leads you through the Hogeland, an open landscape of grassland, arable land and maars. Under the high skies it is wonderfully quiet. And you can get a breath of fresh air while walking on the winding dikes.
