Your walking route starts at Apollo Hotel Vinkeveen-Amsterdam. They were created by the extraction of peat. The elongated islands that you can still see today are legakkers: drying fields for the wet peat. The tensile holes between them became larger and larger due to erosion, which is how the puddles were created. In Baambrugge it seems as if you have traveled back in time. From Baambrugge you walk along the meandering river Angstel to Loenersloot. Along this part of the route you will find one monumental building after another, varying from thatched farms and churches to the thirteenth-century Loenersloot Castle. In between you look out over a wide Dutch polder landscape.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
