Ouderkerk aan de Amstel is a beautiful historic town. The Vinkeveense Plassen are very popular as a water sports area, due to their central location in the Randstad. The lakes are connected to the river Amstel. They were created by the extraction of peat. The elongated islands that you can still see are legakkers: drying fields for the wet peat. You always see many white egrets and spoonbills here. You drive back to your starting point via the lively student district De Pijp.
