Rhine and Gein Route

Recreational area Eiland 1 and Eiland 2 in the Vinkeveense Plassen together form the recreational area Winkelpolder. Both islands can be reached via a bridge. With beaches, a canoe boarding point and catering facilities on the water, this is an ideal place for recreation. The routes take you past various forts, the Botshol nature reserve and over quiet polder roads to the historic Abcoude. Along the way you will encounter beautiful vistas with wide views over the Vinkeveense Plassen. The Vinkeveense Plassen were further deepened in the 1950s for sand extraction for the A2 and the Bijlmer. The deep and very clear water make this area very popular with divers.
