Rhine and Gein route

Eiland 1 and Eiland 2 recreation area in the Vinkeveense Plassen together form the Winkelpolder recreation area. Both islands can be reached via a bridge. With beaches, a canoe launch point and restaurants on the water, this is an ideal place for recreation. The routes lead you past various forts, the Botshol nature reserve and along quiet polder roads to historic Abcoude. Along the way you will find beautiful vistas with panoramic views over the Vinkeveense Plassen. The Vinkeveense Plassen were further deepened in the 1950s for sand extraction for the A2 and Bijlmer. The deep and very clear water makes this area very popular with divers.
