From Mallum to the Piepermolen near Rekken

Your walking route starts at Hotel De Kastanjefabriek just outside Eibergen. From here you walk through a picturesque area centered on the Mallumsche Molen, a monumental corn and hulling mill from 1748 on the river Berkel. It is the only hulling mill in the Netherlands that grinds on water power. You continue walking along the banks of the Berkel. In this region you will see plenty of authentic Saxon farms, such as in the village of Rekken. You walk here along the Piepermolen. The mill was built in 1796 and is named after Mr. Pieper, the mill's last professional miller. You can also see the Martyrs of Gorcum Church. This is dedicated to monks who were killed by the Beggars in 1572 because they refused to convert to Protestantism.
