Get to know the Peel region. It was once on the borderline
North Brabant and Limburg have a raised bog area of no less than 30,000 hectares. In the loop
Over the centuries, this area has been thoroughly overhauled by its residents. Also
literally, because peat was extracted here until the twentieth century. Now
the landscape consists of a mix of arable and grasslands, forests and some
remains of the old raised bog area.

The route takes you through the Schadijkse, among other things
Forests. In the past, there were extensive heathlands here that were sown by farmers to make fertilizer. The digging of sod created large sand drifts that were controlled at the end of the nineteenth century by planting Scots pines.

You pass through several typical  Limburg towns, such as the cozy Horst. You also drive through America, which is in  originated in the late nineteenth century as a peat workers' and heathland mining village. The  Well-known Limburg band Rowwen Hèze considers this village his home.

Just past America you drive towards Mariaveen. Due to peat extraction, the landscape here is littered with peat canals, peat wells and ponds. On the open plains, strawberry and heather plants grow. Here you will experience the peace and space that makes this region so popular with cyclists.

Also around the pleasant Sevenum, whose center has recently undergone a makeover, the landscape consists of a mixture of forests, stream valleys and grasslands. Here you drive through the De Heesbeemden nature reserve, where a wet forest of alders and willows alternates with small meadows and ponds. You run the risk of spotting a deer or bird of prey, they feel very much at home in this beautiful area.
