Godwit around Jagersplas and Wisperveld

The starting point of this route is Café Brasserie Het Heerenhuis in Wijdewormer. After a cup of coffee, put on your walking shoes and explore the centuries-old Wijdewormer polder. First you walk towards the Jagersplas, a nature and recreation area with beaches, surrounded by smaller ditches. The center of the Jagersplas is 38 meters deep. When the lake was excavated, layers of peat were cut through. Pause your route for a delicious lunch at the starting point. Then you dive into the Wormer and Jisperveld. This is the largest contiguous peat meadow area in Western Europe, with hundreds of meadows and narrow ditches. It is wonderfully peaceful to walk here. Meadow birds find a safe haven here. This area is a true paradise for the godwit, there are hundreds of pairs to be found.
