Tour of Woerden and Oudewater

This cycle route starts at Het Witte Hof. From here you cross the Reeuwijkse Plassen. As you cycle past gullies, pools and waterways through a vast area, you will see cuckoo and lady's smock growing on the banks and in the fields. The rich past of Woerden, including special finds from Roman times, can be seen in the former town hall from 1501. Oudewater is the oldest city in the Groene Hart. Here you can admire the fifteenth-century St. Michael's Church, among other things. Oudewater has the only 'reliable' witches' scales in Europe. In the Middle Ages, skinny ladies were weighed here. Anyone who was found too light was a witch, after which the stake followed. You cycle back through the polder, on car-free roads past grasslands and pollard willows.
