Turn left at Vessem

It is almost Belgium, but we can consider ourselves fortunate that the Kempen still extends onto Dutch territory. For a long time it was a backward area, where small farmers tried to keep their heads above water along the wild heathland. Gradually the seemingly indomitable plain disappeared and what remained of it is now cherished. Round sundew grows on marshlands and star sedge also does well. Delicate green flowers of the swamp club moss show their heads and gale thickets grow on the banks of the streams. The cattle are fun: they roam through the area like natural lawn mowers and thus prevent the heath from remaining open. Mout & Hout is the perfect base for the cycling tour. It's wonderful to have a nice bite to eat after your trip.
