\\\'De Oersetters\\\' is the fantastic pontoon bike ride through the National Landscape of Southwest Friesland. Due to its high cultural experiential value,'De Oersetters\\\' has been designated LCH 2018 SWF (\\\'Leeuwarden Cultural Capital 2018 Sudwest-Fryslan). By'Friends of the Voetveren\\\', in collaboration with the ANWB,'De Oersetters\\\' has now been declared the best ferry bike ride in the Netherlands 2014.

The assignment of'de Vrienden van de Voetveren\\\' was to develop a bike ride where at least two crossings must be made with a foot or bicycle ferry. Along the route should be places of interest and of course opportunities to eat and drink. This is certainly the case with ˜De Oersetters\\\'. There is much to see and you will find several picnic benches along the entire route, but you can also use the catering facilities, whether or not on the water. There are also several charging points for electric bicycles along the route.

The name 'De Oersetters' refers to two pedestrian and bicycle ferries that have been included in this cycle route through the Frisian Lake District. These ferries give the trip a special dimension. For those who want to discover and experience the beautiful landscape of Southwest Friesland by bicycle, the'De Oersetters\\\' cycling route offers plenty of opportunities. One moment you are cycling through the varied watery landscape of the Southwest Friesland National Landscape, the next moment you pass a village or historic Frisian city and then enjoy the Frisian landscape again while cycling through wide meadows. 'De Oersetters' is a real experience!'De Oersetters\\\' starts in Bolsward. The tips are described in a clockwise direction. You leave in the direction of nodes 8 and 24. Have fun cycling with'De\\\'Oersetters\\\'.

Tip 1 Buy a fresh Frisian peat-smoked sausage for the road at butcher shop Yde de Boer on Jongemastraat (you will pass by there). This Frisian dry peat-smoked sausage is an award winner. Just do it! (after node 6).

Tip 2 After half an hour of cycling you can drink coffee or tea with delicious apple pie at Kootje near the Bridge. A fantastic tea garden on the water. You can also go there for homemade jams and chutney or a coupe of farmer's ice cream. Kootje bij de Brug is also a VVV information point (between nodes 13 and 12) of VVV Waterland van Friesland.

Tip 3 In Blauwhuis, visit the Vitus Church by master builder Kuipers. Well worth a visit (Junction 12).

Tip 4 After passing the railway line, take a moment to admire the fantastic view over the Oudegaaster Bokken and then enjoy the 5-kilometre long'Bkkenpaad\\\' along the water (junction 15).

Tip 5 At the Pont van Renema you will be transferred over the Grons. That's enjoyment! (after junction 16).

Tip 6 In Gaastmeer you can have lunch at Herberg Yn è Ielaak on the water (in Gaastmeer, continue cycling to the water). De Herberg is also a tourist office and has a charging point. Also take a look at the little church of Gaastmeer (after junction 34).

Tip 7 You can enjoy stories, leaflets and sweets during your crossing with the ferryman and (Grand) Ambassador of Southwest Friesland Menno Sappé. At your request, Menno will tell you the story of the little church in Gaastmeer (between nodes 34 and 23).

Tip 8 There is a lot to do in Workum. At the Begine 9-11 you will find Pottery Art. We have arranged for you to view the studio when you purchase a souvenir in Workumer pottery. At the Merk in Workum you can grab a drink on a terrace. In Workum you can also visit the nationally renowned Jopie Huisman Museum (junction 17).

Tip 9 In Allingawier you can visit the museum farm'de Izeren Ko\\\' (with catering). In Exmorra you can go back in time a hundred years with a visit to the museum-school and grocery shop. These museums are part of the Aldfaers Erf Museum Route (after junction 3).

Tip 10 Back in Bolsward you can enjoy the Titus Brandsma Museum and Gysbert Japicx Museum. But  \\\'De Oersetters\\\' is not complete without a visit to Brewery'Us Heit\\\' on the Snekerstraat (direction node 8), on the eastern border of Bolsward, you have passed it before. Aart van der Linden will introduce you to the brewing process of his Frisian beers and of course you can order a special glass of'Us Heit\\\' beer here! You earned it (after node 6).

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, which have truly been set up as a polder model. A must see!
