Description
At PAND Pannenkoek Restaurant & Ijssalon you get on your bike to explore the Rivierenland National Landscape: a polder landscape of dikes and floodplains. After the floodplains of the Lek you cross the river to Culemborg, with the ruins of Culemborg Castle. This castle was built in the old fortified town during the fourteenth century. It is now a city park. In the Gelderland village of Rijswijk you will pass De Hoop, an eighteenth-century flour mill. A nice landmark when you cross the Lek to Wijk bij Duurstede by ferry. Here you pass the Molen van Ruysdael, a ruin of a mill from 1555. Jacob van Ruysdael painted the mill. You cycle back via Sterkenburg Castle and beautiful historic spots near Werkhoven (Beverweerd Castle and Rijn en Weert Mill).
