This route takes you through a beautiful tip of West Friesland: Enkhuizen and surroundings. This area is enclosed by the West Frisian Omringdijk, the only monumental dike in the world. Here you drive through an agricultural landscape of sheep meadows and authentic bell-shaped farms. In some places, the fertile soil provides a rich palette of colors from spring to autumn thanks to bulb cultivation. Part of the tour you drive along the IJsselmeer. You see nice boats passing by and there are plenty of quiet spots to have a picnic on a bench or just look out over the water. Perhaps a three-master of the brown fleet is just passing by under full sail, a majestic sight. While cycling through the polder, the windmills are also included.
The Vogelhoeksmolen in Enkhuizen is a small polder mill from 1855. It was originally located in the Frisian Hemelum to drain the Vogelhoekspolder there until 1947. In 1984 it was moved to the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. At Wervershoof you pass the De Hoop mill. There was a mill here as early as 1630, but it was replaced by another one in 1889. This mill was chosen as the most beautiful in North Holland in 2010. Since 2013, the mill has housed a museum dedicated to the legendary sports reporter Theo Koomen.
In Bovenkarspel you cycle past Ceres, an octagonal mill from 1849. The mill regularly ground grain until 1968. When the mill fell into disrepair, a foundation was set up to carry out large-scale restoration work in 1992. The restoration took six years, since then the mill has been grinding grain again on a voluntary basis. The route takes you through characteristic towns such as Venhuizen, Hoogkarspel and of course the herring town of Enkhuizen. The picturesque center of Enkhuizen is intersected by canals and enclosed by a rampart. You will find marinas, the Zuiderzee Museum and lots of fun. It is not without reason that Enkhuizen is one of the nicest tourist places in the Netherlands.

This octagonal tower mill was built in 1889. Before that there was another mill on this site from 1630, but it was replaced because the mill was too small.
