Amsterdam is ideal for a varied green and watery cycle route. With this tour you will drive along the various waterways in the city and see a number of special city mills. You start in the canal belt where you will of course see one characteristic building after another. Via the center you drive along the course of the Amstel to the Amstelpark. The route takes you through the Beatrix Park to the Nieuwe Meer. You drive through the Oeverlanden, a rugged nature reserve that was created from the reclaimed soil of the lake. In this urban oasis you have a panoramic view of the Amsterdamse Bos over the water. In the Sloten district you will encounter the first of five city mills, Molen de Sloten. You cycle through the polder to the village of Halfweg, which takes its name from the fact that it is halfway between Haarlem and Amsterdam. The landscape here consists of an intimate interweaving of river, polder and city. You drive back to the canal belt past the Spieringhorn sports park.

The 1100 Roe is the name of a polder mill in Amsterdam that used to be located on Haarlemmerweg. The name of the mill is based on the distance in the rod to the Haarlemmerpoort, which is almost four kilometers.

The mill was built in 1632 after the construction of the Haarlemmertrekvaart and was used to drain the Osdorper Binnenpolder. In 1951 the mill lost its function when a large part of the polder disappeared under the sand of the Western Garden Cities.
