On the trappers between the blades

This cycle route around Weert takes you along cycle paths and easily accessible, mostly quiet country roads through the unspoiled nature of the border area between the Netherlands and Belgium. The starting point of the route is at the reconstruction of the kollergang of a late medieval Rosolie mill in Weert. Until the 1950s, the original mill stood here to provide the residents of Weert with oil.

You cycle partly through the cross-border landscape Kempen-Broek. This nature reserve is even more extensive than the Hoge Veluwe and is located between Cranendock, Weert, Leudal and the Belgian border municipalities of Hamont, Bocholt, Bree and Molenbeersel-Kinrooi. In 2014, the region around Weert was voted the greenest region in the world.

Along the way you will come across plenty of beautiful sights that are worth a visit. Many of these places bear witness to the old agricultural character of the region, such as the old monumental long-gabled farms that are so characteristic of this region. You will also find road crosses, old chapels, nine windmills, three water mills and a hydroelectric power station. Some of these windmills are open regularly and are often still in operation today.
