Through the forests of Berg en Dal

This route takes you to the surprising countryside surrounding Nijmegen. Your walk begins in the Duivelsberg nature reserve in Berg en Dal. You walk over hills and through valleys where a babbling brook flows. The forest consists mainly of deciduous trees; you will see, among others, the sweet chestnut. The route then leads you through the northern part of the Groesbeekse Bos. This former production forest is now allowed to develop back into a natural forest. There is more dead wood, and more and more conifers are making way for deciduous trees such as oak, birch, and rowan. You can take a short break at Pancake House De Ontdekking before walking back into the forest. Located in the middle of the forest, De Duivelsberg has been the place to go for a delicious traditional Dutch pancake for over fifty years.
