Lingewaard, Gelderland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 180486
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Lingewaard is located in the Betuwe and is wedged between the Rhine and the Waal. You can cycle here wonderfully over winding dikes through a typical wide river landscape. You can also roam freely in the floodplains. You might even come across Konik horses and Red Geuzen. A little further on lies the medieval castle Doornenburg, which is well worth a visit. At the junction of the Waal and the Rhine at Doornenburg you will pass Fort Pannerden. This historical attraction is part of the New Dutch Waterline. Halfway along the route you cycle through Bemmel. Here you can take a look at Kasteel De Kinkelenburg. The earliest mention of this castle dates from 1403, but at that time it was probably no more than a square stone residential tower.
