Description

You first cycle towards the Julianasluis from 1936 that separates the Hollandse IJssel from the Gouwe. The lock and bridge keeper's houses are national monuments. Just before Moordrecht you pass the Catholic church and associated rectory, two beautiful buildings from the nineteenth century. The village centre enjoys a protected village view, what a nice atmosphere! Completely in old style you cross the river to Gouderak by ferry. Then you pass Gouda, known for its cheese, syrup waffles and pottery. The compact and historic city centre has many sights, beautiful medieval streets, canals and courtyards. Stop off at Barista Café Gouda! You cycle back along the Reeuwijkse Plassen, an exuberant bird world in a typical Dutch peat landscape. Polders and wooden quays, mills, dikes and farm roads... It doesn't get more Dutch than this!
