The Hoeksche Waard is considered a National Landscape because of its beauty. Come and discover the charm of this island with this beautiful route. From Nieuwendijk you can take a ferry trip to nature island Tiengemeten.

Old Beijerland
The route starts in the middle of the polders of the Hoeksche Waard. In this open area you drive on car-free and winding dikes along vast meadows and ditches along which willows and reed beds grow. Soon you will pass the Kleine Gat, one of the many creeks on the island. How quiet it is here! In Oud-Beijerland you will pass the cozy old harbour.

The Spui
You cycle along the Spuidijk to Nieuw-Beijerland. Here you have a beautiful view from the road over the marina and Het Spui, a tidal river that was created during a flood in the sixteenth century. You can also see some beautiful farms here and De Swaen, a former flour mill from 1703. Just past Goudswaard, you can look out over the bird-rich Korendijkse Slikken from the Oudendijk. Further on you will pass through Zuid-Beijerland, where you will see Korenmolen Landzigt from 1857.

De Swaen is a windmill that was built in 1703 in Nieuw-Beijerland. This mill was used to grind grain until 1958. Now it is no longer possible to grind with the mill, because the interior has been removed.

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were not only used to produce flour from cereals, but also for draining polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, which have truly been set up as a polder model. A must see!
