Over the heath to Apeldoorn

Your route starts at Lounge 3. You cycle across the Veluwe to Radio Kootwijk: a monumental building on the Kootwijkerzand, a desert-like sand plain of about 700 hectares. Everywhere you see traces of game: roe deer and red deer, but also foxes, hares and other smaller animals roam around. The transmitting station was built in the 1920s to maintain contact with the then Dutch East Indies. The building, which most resembles a combination of a temple and a sphinx, stands out well against the sandy hills. You will pass various nature reserves that are part of Kroondomein Het Loo, originally a royal estate. On the edge of Apeldoorn you will discover Park Berg en Bos, where you can climb the lookout tower.
