The Four Days Marches in Nijmegen consists of four days of walking pleasure in the wider area of the city of Nijmegen. You walk through Gelderland, Brabant and Limburg. Every day there is a different place in the Nijmegen area.
The first day of the Four Days Marches is called the Day of Elst. The route takes you through the Betuwe and through the Gelderland village of Elst, north of Nijmegen. Elst is the most important transit point for the 30, 40 and 50 kilometer route. At the beginning and at the end of the day you walk over the Waal Bridge. You continue through Huissen and Arnhem before heading towards Elst. The municipality of Elst is determined to make it a smashing party during the Day of Elst and you will be welcomed by the mayor of Elst. You can also enjoy music in Elst and an enthusiastic audience along the side. There is no shortage of atmosphere in the Betuwe. You could not wish for a better start to the Four Days Marches. The last part of the course is formed by the dike between Oosterhout and Lent, traditionally a tough part. From here you can see the railway bridge and later the Waal bridge in the distance. Don't be fooled by that, you still have to walk for over an hour. You end the day on the cozy Wedren.
