This route takes you through the Drentsche Aa National Landscape to Assen. Discover the contrast between this quiet nature reserve where time seems to have stood still and the pleasant city of Assen, which is full of historic buildings. Along the way you can also admire typical Drenthe dolmens.
Tarel's restaurant
The first part of this route takes you from Schipborg to Assen through the Drentsche Aa National Landscape. Man has had little influence on this nature reserve and that is why it has looked much the same for centuries. Here you will find forests and heathlands through which the Drentse Aa stream meanders. In this beautiful area you can take a break at Tarel's Restaurant. Enjoy a tasty snack and a drink here and gain new energy to continue your cycling tour.
Discover Assen
After cycling about 35 kilometers you arrive in Assen, one of the youngest cities with city rights in the Netherlands. Assen has a protected cityscape, so there is plenty of beauty to see here. You then cycle further through the stream landscape of the Drentsche Aa to Schipborg. You end your trip at B&B Schipborg, where you can book an overnight stay. From here you can also follow route 124246 and route 334185.
Typical Drenthe dolmens
You can hardly ignore it when you take a trip in Drenthe: dolmens. On this route you can admire two of these historical gems. Hunebed D17 is located near the church of Rolde and a little further away you will find Hunebed D18. Dolmen D17 is no longer in optimal condition, but dolmen D18 still looks good.

B&B Schipborg is located in a quiet, wooded area on the edge of the Drentsche Aa. The B&B is located in a beautiful country house surrounded by a large garden with several terraces. You can only park here as a guest of the B&B. The house has its own guest entrance, there is a separate kitchen with fridge where you can make your own coffee and tea. Guests can use the TV and free Wi-Fi in the private living and dining room. The rooms have a private bathroom with shower & toilet and are located on the ground floor, overlooking the garden.

Northeast of Rolde you will find this ruin of a hunebed. This hunebed dates from 3400 and 3200 BC. and it consists of eight capstones, 15 bearing stones, two keystones, and two gate side stones.

This hunebed at Rolde has been restored and therefore it looks neater than most hunebeds in the area. This structure has seven capstones, fourteen bearing stones, two keystones and two gate side stones.
