Description

On this route you will get acquainted with the surroundings of Broek in Waterland. You walk along the Broekervaart and through the Varkensland nature reserve. This area is a true paradise for meadow birds. You can spot the black-tailed godwit, redshank, golden plover, reed bunting and reed warbler.

On to Watergang
You start your walk in the backyard of Amsterdam in the idyllic village of Broek in Waterland. You immediately recognize this village by the pastel-colored monumental buildings. This oasis of tranquility a stone's throw from the busy city is a nice place to start your tour. From here you can walk to the hamlet of Het Schouw and the picturesque village of Watergang. Between Watergang and Broek in Waterland you then walk on an old church path. In the past, this path was used on Sundays by residents of Watergang to walk to Broek in Waterland to attend mass in the church.

You will eventually end your tour in Broek in Waterland. In the Golden Age, wealthy merchants from Amsterdam settled in this village. They had beautiful houses built here in special colors to show off. 

Practical information
This route is partially inaccessible during the breeding season from March 15 to July 1 (between junction 1 and junction 75). So pay attention to that before you go to this area for nothing. It is also advisable to wear boots or other mud-resistant footwear if the weather is or has been bad. Then it can get soggy here.
