This detour takes you through an open grazing area, through a dense forest and past a pond and a beach. You walk through the Roemersveld, where land goats and Scottish Highlanders keep the vegetation short and open. You will also walk through the Smaal, the largest contiguous forest area in Het Twiske.
The Stootersplas
This walking route is marked with black posts with blue arrows. Even without directions, this route is easy to follow. Dogs are also allowed on this route, provided they are kept on a leash. Dogs are not allowed on the beach on this route. The starting point of this route is on the edge of the Stootersplas, a pond that was created by sand extraction for the construction of the Coentunnel race. Today, the lake and the surrounding recreation area Het Twiske are very popular with water sports enthusiasts, but also with hikers. You can enjoy the beautiful nature to the fullest. How about beautiful beaches, a harbor and wetlands, for example.
The Smal
On the east side of the Twiske you walk through the Smaal. This area consists of dense forests and dark swampy area. In the summer months this is an ideal place if you are looking to cool down. Even then the sun has trouble getting through the dense foliage.
On the road from the car
The start and end point of this route is at a parking lot. You can park your car here and then explore the route on foot from here. It is therefore possible to come from far and wide by car to discover this beautiful area.
