From the lookout tower on the Kootwijkerzand you have a fantastic view over the Veluwe. This steel tower replaces an 8 meter high wooden copy from 1999, which had to be demolished due to wood rot. The 13.5-meter-high watchtower stands on the largest sand drift in Western Europe. It is freely accessible between sunrise and sunset.

Radio Kootwijk was built between 1918 and 1923 on an abandoned site in the Veluwe, about 12 km from Apeldoorn. Radio Kootwijk provided the first direct radio contact with the Dutch East Indies. The main building is one of the most beautiful examples of art deco in the Netherlands and has rightly been declared a national monument.

You will find the Beekhuizen estate on the west side of the Veluwezoom National Park. This estate includes well-maintained hiking trails, beautiful ponds with bridges over them and lush rhododendrons. So be sure to take a look at this beautiful estate and marvel at the beauty of nature. In 1682 the lord of castle Biljoen Alexander van Spaen bought this estate. The later owner Johan Frederik Willem van Spaen later turned this estate into a beautiful area for walkers. Van Spaen was inspired by nature and landscaped gardens in Italy, Switzerland and France and he tried to reflect this on the estate. This was expressed in the construction of ponds, waterfalls, rocks and trees to create beautiful vistas. He even placed a few log cabins on the banks of the stream. In the 19th century, a Swiss chalet-style hotel was built on the estate, but that hotel was destroyed by a fire in 1980.

The place stays with you and this memory makes you want to come back more often to enjoy this view in other seasons.
