Cycling around De Malpie in Valkenswaard

This route introduces you to the heathlands of the De Malpie nature reserve in Valkenswaard. Nestled among the heathlands are numerous fens. The soil types in the area are varied, and the groundwater in the different fens is therefore at different levels. The diversity of plants, fungi, and soil types attracts many butterflies and dragonflies along the banks and across the heathland, and reptiles such as grass snakes also thrive here. Along the way, you can visit two historic windmills, including De Venbergsemolen. Restored in 1977, it operates regularly in the summer, but it no longer actually grinds water.
