Your route starts at Eetcafe De Droadnagel in the charming village of Haarle, at the foot of the Sallandse Heuvelrug. This National Park boasts one of the largest contiguous heathlands in Europe, as well as forests, tranquility, and impressive terrain. The Sallandse Heuvel boasts the last remaining population of wild black grouse in the Netherlands. For more information, stop at the Sallandse Heuvelrug Visitor Center. Many goods used to be transported via the Regge River. From the sixteenth to the nineteenth century, zompen, flat-bottomed boats capable of navigating even very shallow water, sailed here. Back at the starting point, you can enjoy a well-deserved snack and drink to round off the day in style.
