Cycling along the Randmeren, through special forests and vast polders? You do that in Flevoland, the youngest province where it is wonderful to cycle.
City forests Almere
Just below Almere you drive through a number of special city forests. You will pass through the Circle Forest, which has been laid out with clean straight lines. You mainly see hazel, beech and alder. The Cathedral Forest owes its name to two'cathedrals\\': life-size green replicas of Reims Cathedral. One consists of a grassy plain in the forest, the other represents the pillars of the cathedral with Italian poplars.
Green Wall
On the banks of the Gooi and Eemmeer you have beautiful views over the water and the polders and contours of villages on the other side. From the path along the Hoge Vaart canal you can see a green wall looming: the Horsterwold, the largest contiguous deciduous forest in Western Europe. It is a pleasure to drive in this quiet and varied forest.
