Smuggling tour Chaam, Alphen and Baarle

Riding straight through the quiet border region with Belgium, you'll reach Chaam, another beautiful old village. Between Chaam and Alphen, the route leads you through the Chaam woods. The area consists of pine forests with beautiful views of heathlands and fens. In the countryside surrounding Baarle, you'll still find many sandy paths that once served as smuggling routes. The border runs close by, and in Baarle, it even crisscrosses the village: a prime smuggling area in the post-war era. Butter was often hidden under the clothing of women on bicycles. But the customs officers weren't fools either: they kindly invited the women to sit by a well-heated stove...!
