Description

Along the green edge of Heerlen you cycle to the Brunssummerheide. This heathland area was created by people. You wouldn't say it, but the area around the visitor centre was built on a former landfill. A herd of Schoonbeek sheep lives in the hilly area. You cycle back along the bank of the Cranenweyer, a reservoir in the Anstel valley (also called the Anstelerbeek valley) in Kerkrade. The Anstelerbeek runs through a valley with steep slopes, where Roman villas used to be. You will now find a varied hillside forest there. There are also two watermills (Hammolen and Brugmolen), GaiaZOO, Kasteel Erenstein, the castle farm Nieuw Erenstein and the farm Klarenanstel. An interesting area! A beautiful walking area has been created around the reservoir.
