Description

An ash landscape with old wooded banks and lovely water streams. For centuries, the soil here has been soded, gradually transforming the landscape into the small-scale appearance it has today. A lovely small scale with cute vistas in a beautiful bocage landscape sets the tone of your route. The area has manufacturing industry, but also a lot of agriculture and livestock. The cozy us-knows-us atmosphere is clearly palpable in the second largest municipality of the Achterhoek, Berkelland. Cycle to mill Agneta, a mill that was used as a peeling, oil and corn mill. The mill, built in 1851, is named after Freule Johanna Mauritia Agneta van Heeckeren van Kell. This name is displayed at the top of the hull of the mill as usual. In 1917 the mill was converted into a saw and corn mill. There is still (electric) sawing in the mill. Agneta has been restored three times over the years in 1975, 1985 and 1994, and the mill is still running quite often. Castle and estate Ruurlo are one of the most special places in the area. The country estate is mentioned as early as 1326 and has been in the hands of the Dutch noble family van Heeckeren since the fifteenth century. The building consists of many different architectural styles because the castle has been built almost constantly over the years and centuries. For example, part of a medieval wall still exists in the basement and almost the entire left side of the castle was built in the sixteenth century. The tower at the back was added a century later. One wall in the tower was given new gable tops in the nineteenth century. For a long time, the castle has been the location for the television series'de Zevensprong\\\'. Today the castle is regularly used as a wedding venue. Finally you come to the Olliemöllie / Stone Table in Borculo. The Stone Table is an undershot watermill that consists of two parts on different banks. On one bank is a corn and hulling mill, while on the other is a former oil mill, which was converted into a flour mill in 1920. The current water mill dates back to the eighteenth century, but already had a number of predecessors. A restaurant is now located in both buildings. Holiday home Esjawi forms the base for this cycling tour. Between the meadows, on the edge of the forest, you can see the sun sink behind the trees in the evening. Sitting on the veranda of your own rented house, you can enjoy the Achterhoek even longer and the most beautiful panoramas burn themselves on your retina. When you book one of Esjawi's holiday homes, you can also drive route 166857.
