Description

Cycle along the boulevard of Vlissingen and admire the ceramic sculptures by Jo Uiterwaal on the outer facades of Vlissingen train station. The station building is one of the few station buildings designed by Van Ravesteyn that has not yet been demolished. You will also cycle to Fort Rammekens, the oldest surviving sea fort in Western Europe. It was built in 1547 to protect the busy shipping routes to Antwerp and Middelburg. The natural stone is resistant to salt water. Stop for a coffee at Van der Valk Hotel Middelburg and then cycle to the capital of Zeeland. Here you cannot miss the imposing abbey complex with the Lange Jan. The abbey tower has 207 steps, but the view from the 90.5 meter high tower is more than worth it!
