You will pass Veenhuizen, a special village with a wonderful history, where there is still plenty to see and experience today. A village in Drenthe that looks nothing like other villages. Because Veenhuizen is one of the former Colonies of Benevolence, where more than a hundred national monuments still testify to a unique past. Straight avenues and stately buildings, museums, studios, atmospheric eating and drinking addresses... Without exception, they are located in historic buildings, which are also strongly connected. They bear witness to the rich Colony history. And around it: extensive nature reserves, from high moors to stream valleys. In short, Veenhuizen has a lot to offer. In 2018, the new permanent exhibition in the National Prison Museum opened. It shows the 200-year history of the Colony of Veenhuizen. (Oude Gracht 1 in Veenhuizen, The Netherlands).
