From Nuenen you first drive to the Kleine Dommel valley. The river meanders beautifully through an old cultural landscape. You will see some old farms here, and you will also pass the Opwetten Watermill from 1764. Further on you will pass Geldrop Castle. The current building dates from 1770 and is surrounded by a beautiful English landscape garden. You will also pass the St. Brigida Church from 1891, an imposing structure. The route then takes you a long way across the Strabrechtse Heide. It is wonderfully quiet in the middle of the heath. Unless you come across the herd of Kempense Heath sheep: a fun experience! You cycle through the woods to Helmond, after which you enter another nature reserve: the Papenvoortse Heide. The route ends at Parkhotel & Brasserie Auberge Vincent.

De Watermolen van Opwetten

The history of this mill goes back about a thousand years, although the exact year of construction is unknown. The mill was probably built by the monks of the Abbey of Sint-Truiden in the 11th century. It is an undershot watermill that has functioned over the years as a grain, oil and sawmill. The mill has the largest water wheel in the Netherlands with a diameter of more than 9 meters. Apart from the sawing machine, the mill is still completely authentic. The sawing machine has been sold like scrap iron in the past. This is one of the three watermills that Vincent van Gogh captured on his canvas during his lifetime. Here on the Dommel he worked together with the painter Anthon van Rappard, whom he had met in Brussels in 1880. The grain and sawmill is freely accessible all week. The mill runs on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. There is a voluntary miller present who can give you more information about the operation of the mill. You can also buy flour in the mill.
Kasteel Geldrop
Geldrop Castle is a castle from 1350 and is located right in the center. It is located in the valley of the locally busy meandering Kleine Dommel. The beautiful English landscape gardens surround the castle. It houses a petting zoo, an active IVN in the former coach house and the beautiful flower garden De Baron z? N Hof.
