A nice tour through the Peel

The name may make you think of Drenthe, but Helenaveen is actually located in North Brabant. This former peat colony enjoys a protected village view, where you can experience what a Peelontginningsdorp used to look like. From here you cycle through the Deurnese Peel, a unique remnant of the large raised bog area that once lay on the border between Brabant and Limburg. You also cycle past the Paardekop, a nature reserve in which a large German military cemetery is located. You cycle through the Loobeekdal and the coniferous forests of the Rouwkuilen to the esdorp Merselo. In the Schadijkse Bossen you experience a refreshing peace. In the village of America you pass the Sint-Jozefkerk. This dates from the period of the exploitation: 1892.
