A nice tour through the Peel

The name may remind you of Drenthe, but Helenaveen is really located in North Brabant. This former peat colony enjoys a protected village view, here you can experience what a Peel extraction village used to look like. From here you cycle through the Deurnese Peel, a unique remnant of the large raised bog area that once lay on the border between Brabant and Limburg. You also drive past the Paardekop, a nature reserve that contains a large German military cemetery. You drive through the Loobeekdal and the coniferous forests of the Rouwkuilen to the esdorp Merselo. In the Schadijkse Bossen you will experience a refreshing tranquility. In the village of America you will pass the St. Joseph's Church. This dates from the period of extraction: 1892.
