Discover the tranquil surroundings of Londerzeel, a village that is part of the Green Belt north of Brussels. You cycle through the polders along meadows, streams and fields. Poplars, willows and ash also adorn the landscape. Diepensteyn Castle is an old medieval moated castle from the thirteenth century. The last inhabitants left the castle after the French Revolution at the end of the eighteenth century. Since 1989, the building has been owned by the Palm Brewery, which co-financed the restoration work in the 1990s. The famous Brabant Draft Horses, the logo of the beer brand, graze on the domain of the castle. If you don't like beer, you can still visit the beautiful park and ornamental garden on this domain. Londerzeel may nowadays be known as a beer village, it was once a center of chicken breeders. It is not for nothing that the inhabitants bear the name'Kekenpickers\\\'. The village center is home to some beautiful historic buildings, such as the Sint-Kristoffelkerk, the Burchtdomein and the Heldenplein, where a more than 100-year-old swamp cypress stands. In neighboring Malderen is one of the oldest stake mills in Flanders, the Heidemolen. This mill probably dates from the twelfth century.
