Leudal, Limburg, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 1573623
Provided by: Groots Genieten
From your starting point you first walk through the church along the Uffelse Beek, which runs right through the village here. On the route you will find several points with interesting information from the war period (1940 - 1945). On the Schansstraat you will pass the Lancaster monument. The V-sign was made from one of the Lancaster's wing struts. The bomber crashed in Hunsel in July 1944. At the end of the route you will discover the last point of interest. This war memorial is a bronze statue of a male figure and a female figure with a child on her arm. It was erected in memory of the victims who fell in the former municipality of Hunsel, but in 1994 the original text was replaced by an ode to Belgian Brigade Piron that liberated Hunsel and its surroundings on September 25, 1944.
