The Weerterbos and the Groote Peel

Just outside Weert you cycle on car-free roads through a quiet rural area. You pass through a number of beautiful nature reserves, such as the Weerterbos and the Groote Peel.

Weerterbos
Just after boarding, you will pass the first sight: the Wilhelmus Huberts, a flour mill from 1904. On the Hushoverweg you will see the neo-Gothic St. Donatus Chapel from 1872, and further on you can go to Gasterij de Stoof for a drink and a snack. The Weerterbos is one of the few truly old forests in the area. This nature reserve consists of a beautiful mix of moist and dry forests, grassland plots and small heathlands.

The pan
You can also enjoy nature and silence at Landgoed de Pan. On the Pandijk you will see Hoef aan de Pan, a farm from 1831. Then you will pass the visitor center of De Groote Peel National Park. You cannot explore this area by bike, but with a short walk to the lookout tower you will also gain wonderful impressions. It's nice to make some kilometers along the canal when you drive back to Weert.
