From Reusel to Hapert and Hoogeloon

Babbling streams and beautiful sparse grasslands, but also parts of a wild heathland landscape await you when you cycle through the Kempen. The Cartierheide is part of De Kempen and covers 172 hectares. The Dalems Stroompje flows over the heath and there are many damp areas. Birch breeches and gale shrubs grow well there, but bell gentian also grows on the wetter areas. The area is home to special reptiles: the viviparous lizard and the smooth snake like to sunbathe on the sandy bottom. The moor frog also jumps around happily and you can see ducks bathing in the fens. The deeper you penetrate into the heart of De Kempen, the more wild the area looks. Star sedge and round sundew, but also the delicate green flowers of the swamp club moss grow on beautiful marshlands. On the banks of the streams you will also find gale shrubs and the moor frog and pin-legged salamander are happy near the water. The marshy area also attracts many water birds, such as the wigeon, the pintail and the tufted duck, but also the wild swan and the bittern are no exception. In addition, many nightjars live in the Kempen, and slow worms and smooth snakes glide over the ground.
