Along the water between Roermond and Stevensweert

Enjoy Limburg? Then go cycling along the Maasplassen, the largest contiguous water sports area in the Netherlands. Between Roermond and Stevensweert you cycle through typical Limburg towns with a rich history.

Cosy Roermond
Roermond needs no introduction. When you drive through the historical part of this Limburg gem, you will see many historical buildings. On the Markt is the iconic city hall that originally dates from 1700. The St. Christopher's Cathedral from 1410 is also beautiful. On the Roerkade you can see the Stenen Brug from 1771. Here are also the monumental factory buildings of the former Electro Chemical Industry. Since 2012, the ECI Cultuurfabriek has been located here.

Limburg beauties
Wessem, Thorn and Stevensweert: these Limburg beauties all enjoy protected village views because of the many beautiful monuments. In Stevensweert on the market you can take a break on the terrace of 'T Aod Kloaster Grand Café. Enjoy a bite to eat and a drink. In Heel you can see the Sint Stephanus church, the tower of which dates back to the twelfth century. Huis Nederhoven is a moated hunting lodge on the north bank of the Sleijbeek. The current house was built in 1614 on the foundations of the original house from the fifteenth century.

The White Village
Sometimes it really pays off to walk with your bike in hand to take in the surroundings. Thorn is one of those places where you automatically squeeze your brakes. This place is also called the white village because of the many white facades that adorn the monumental buildings. One of those eye-catchers is the St. Michael's Church, large parts of which date back to the fourteenth century.
