Breskens is easy to discover by bicycle. In the hinterland you will get to know the beauty of West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
Lighthouse Breskens
Nieuwvliet is the first village on your route. Here you can see the hull of the Molen Luteyn, further on there is another nameless flour mill from 1850. Just before junction 10 you drive along the Verdronken Zwarte Polder, a nature reserve with dunes and thickets. Cycling through the dunes you can get a breath of fresh air, while looking out over the North Sea. In good weather it is nice to take a dip. You pass the Nieuwe Sluis: a lighthouse from 1867.
Port of Breskens
Breskens is a real maritime city with its own fishing port and modern marina. You can visit the Breskens Fisheries Museum here, a nice stop-off. You will also pass Mobile bicycle service, a handy service in the event of a breakdown on the road in West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. You will find plenty of peace and space in the wide polders. You pass the Groote Gat, a creek and nature reserve. Finally, you drive along the Nieuwerkerkse Kreek, which was created when pro-state troops pierced the dikes.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
