In the Gelderse Vallei you can make a beautiful route through a varied landscape of forest, grasslands and the ancient Arkemheenpolder. You will also pass sights such as a vineyard and steam pumping station.
Nearby you drive past B&B Groot Overhorst, where you can stay at the farmer. A nice rural address! Just before Appel you drive through an old bocage landscape. You really feel like you have stepped back in time here. Mill De Hoop dates from 1888 and was used to grind grain. Further on you pass Wijngaard Aan de breede Beek, a nice stop.
Steam pumping station Arkemheen
The Arkemheenpolder was already constructed in the fourteenth century, it is one of the oldest polders in the Netherlands. Here you will find the Stoomgemaal Arkemheen, a monument from 1883. The name of the Zeedijk dates back to the time when you looked out over the Zuiderzee, now you can see the Nijkerkernauw and Flevoland. In the Gelderse Vallei you drive through the woods of the Kruishaarse Heide, at Voorthuizen you pass through the nature-rich recreation area Zeumeren.
