After a cup of coffee on the large terrace of De Smokkelaar Bourgondisch Enjoyment (or cozy by the fireplace!) you put on your hiking boots. The name of your starting point was not chosen by chance: the border here used to be a lucrative trade for smugglers. For years, smugglers from Belgium and the Netherlands were active in the surrounding forests. With all that rugged nature here, they could often go about their business unseen. Today you take a nice walk over the Strijbeekse Heide, along the fens Rondven and Langven. You will find a beautiful mix of fragrant conifers, fens and heather here. You also pass through the beautiful Markdal. Since 2004, the Mark meanders here again. You walk right past reed beds and flowery grasslands while looking out over the rippling water.
