Knokke-Heist and the Zwin nature park

Knokke-Heist is one of the most famous seaside resorts in Belgium. It is a popular holiday destination, because you will find no less than 12 kilometers of sandy beach. You cross the border with the Netherlands. In the Agrimuda Regional Agricultural Museum in Sint-Anna ter Muiden you can discover more about the farmland and farm life of a century ago. Korenmolen De Meermin was a brick mill from 1896. You cycle along the borders of the Zwin Provincial Nature Park. The Zwin is an old estuary of the North Sea. Behind the dunes you will find salty mudflats and salt marshes. At the Belgian-Dutch border there is a breach in the dune line, where seawater flows into the nature reserve at high tide. The influence of the salt water creates a unique biotope. The nature reserve is an important resting, foraging and breeding place for numerous migratory birds.
