Along water and history in Central Limburg

Between Baexem and the Belgian Maaseik you cycle along the Juliana Canal, along the winding banks of the Maas and along the many ponds in the river's floodplain area. Old castles and mills, beautiful towns: enjoy!

Historical heritage
You start at Molen Aurora, a semi-closed post mill from 1845. The wood of the base is said to come from the old gallows of Haelen. You can learn more about the mill in the modern mill house. Watermill the Grathemermolen from the 13th century is a mill where local residents were obliged to have their grain ground. Further on, near Stevensweert, you will discover Kasteel Het Geudje, or Huis Hasselholt, probably built in 1548.

Old places
Stevensweert is a small fortified town with a protected village view on an island in the Meuse. At the Maas and Maritime Museum or Maas Inland Shipping Museum Maasbracht you can learn all about the rich history of inland shipping. The 17th-century Heel Castle or Huize St. Anna in Heel forms the core of a former monastery. Nearby you can enjoy a terrace again, at Lenny\\\'s ice cream and coffee parlor in the picturesque old center.
