Description

Between Baexem and the Belgian Maaseik you cycle along the Julianakanaal, along the winding banks of the Maas and along the many lakes in the floodplains of the river. Old castles and mills, beautiful places: enjoy!

Historical heritage You start at Molen Aurora, a semi-closed post mill from 1845. The wood of the base is said to come from the old gallows of Haelen. In the modern mill house you can learn more about the mill. Watermill de Grathemermolen from the 13th century is a ban mill where local residents were obliged to have their grain ground. Further on, near Stevensweert, you will discover Kasteel Het Geudje, or Huis Hasselholt, probably built in 1548.

Old towns Stevensweert is a small fortified town with a protected village view on an island in the Maas. At the Maas and Shipping Museum or Maas Binnenvaartmuseum Maasbracht you can learn all about the rich history of inland shipping. The 17th century Kasteel Heel or Huize St. Anna in Heel forms the core of a former monastery.
