Description

You will soon be cycling through the lovely Zoutelande, one of Walcheren's most popular seaside resorts. Immediately behind the beach and the dunes are terraces, shops, pubs and restaurants. A beautiful cycle path just behind the dunes and through the greenery takes you to Dishoek. Dishoek was once founded as a lookout for Vlissingen and was originally called Dijckshoek. The village got this name because it was located near a sea dike. The remains of this dike can still be seen at low tide. Via Koudekerke you drive to Middelburg. The capital was founded in the ninth century, when the Vikings moved into Europe. A ring rampart was erected here to protect the island of Walcheren against intruders. A beautiful rural route leads to the equally historic Veere.
