Cycling through Arnhem

Get to know Arnhem during this short tour through the stately city and its surroundings. Along the way you will pass many beautiful sights and enjoy the nature reserve around Arnhem.

Castle Biljoen
Quite soon you will pass Biljoen Castle. This castle was built around 1530 by the Duke of Gelre. After a few renovations, Louis the Fourteenth temporarily settled in this castle. It meant the salvation of the building.

Cycling through nature
The route continues over the dike along the beginning of the Gelderse IJssel. Here you cycle in the Velperwaarden, a nature reserve that is rich in special meadow birds. After cycling a bit along the Nederrijn and the city center, you cycle into the famous Park Sonsbeek. The park consists largely of a centuries-old beech forest. A little further on is the Witte Watermolen, a corn mill that dates from the 15th century. Nowadays, the Sonsbeek Visitor Center is located in the barn of the mill.

Park Klarenbeek
The route takes you further along Park Klarenbeek, a former estate that became the first city park of Arnhem. The park consists of an open plain, on the west, north and east side there is a wide strip of deciduous forest. In Velp you cycle along the Van Lennepsmolen, a monumental overshot watermill that burned down twice in the previous century and was restored just as often.
