You cycle past the Havezate Camphuysen estate, the oldest parts of which date back to the fourteenth century. The imposing Doornenburg Castle, with its outer bailey and main castle, connected by a narrow wooden bridge, is one of the largest and best preserved castles in the Netherlands. It was built in the 13th century, as an extension of a fortified house that was already here in the 9th century. Huis Aerdt dates from 1652. You will also discover more recent heritage, such as Fort Pannerden. This fort was completed in 1872. It is surrounded by a moat and pollard willows. It is the successor to a medieval castle that was destroyed in the 16th century. L44: Geen stenen voor de enemy is a listening spot from the Liberation Route.
